The issue of women's rights has always been an issue but it got the most attention during the presidency of Kennedy. In 1961 he created the Presidential Commission on the Staus of Women(PCSW). This program called for federal action against gender discrimination and ensured that women have the right to equal pay as men. The then created the Equal Pay Act which Kennedy signed in 1963.
When JFK was running for president he asked Eleanor Roosevelt for political support. She agreed in exchange for his promise to establish PCSW.
